Welcome to
Splash Your Ink!

Are you a 12 to 14-year-old who loves to write or tell stories? Or wants to learn how? Do you dream of someday writing a book and getting published?

If so, Splash Your Ink! is a fun and interactive way to learn the skills needed to write, revise, and publish. By the end of the year, engaged students who put in the work will be published authors under the Revello Press imprint, earning an industry-standard author royalty!

Student Writing Story

The Course

  • Explore the world of writing through clear instruction, writing practice, one-on-one mentor feedback, and positive peer review in a safe, exploratory environment.
  • Discover key elements of storytelling: character, plot, setting, conflict, point of view, voice, and more.
  • Read and discuss selected novels and assess them from a writing/publishing perspective.
  • Develop your own unique writing style and voice, and create with confidence.
  • Improve and refine your writing with basic grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
  • By the end of the course, dedicated students will create a story suitable for publication.

Is Your Student Ready
for This Class?

To determine if your 12 to 14 year-old is ready, ask yourself these questions:

  • Does your child want to take this class, or are you having to push them?
A desire to begin writing one’s thoughts, to journal, or to write short stories is a good indication that a child is getting ready to start writing more fomally. We make this formal writing process fun!
  • Is your child ready for homework every week?
While not required to stay in the class, students will get very little out of this program if they don’t put in the work. There will be time for writing during class, but a good portion of the writing will need to be done at home.
  • Is your child ready to work with peers in a positive and supportive way?
In this class, students will be asked to give encouraging, thoughtful feedback on each other’s writing — and to receive feedback with an open mind. A key part of growing as a writer is learning how to support others and use safe-environment critiques to improve rather than feel discouraged. A growth mindset will be helpful for the success of your student, and they will improve this skill by participating
    .
